Granulometry
Analyzing the granulometry of the sediment means defining the dimensions of the particles that compose it and classifying them. The particle size analysis by sieving is performed with a series of sieves, stacked with opening gradually decreasing from top to bottom.
The column of sieves is generally placed on a “sieve” that shakes the column for a determined period of time, after which the fractions of solid retained in each plate (sieve) are weighed. The weight of each solid fraction is then related to the weight of the total solid, to obtain the percentage (by mass) of solid retained in each plate.
