Impact Test Tableware
Astm Impact test for estimating the resistance of ceramic items to knock sand rough handling.One dual scale machine is available for carrying out impact tests according to A.STM C-368, the lower scale for bone china domestic tableware, and the heavier for carrying out tests on more robust ware (e.g hotelware).
The impact tests are carried out on either glazed or unglazed samples at the centre of both flatware and hollow ware, at the rim of hollow ware, and edge chipping tests at the rim of flat-ware.
The tests at the centre of the of the specimen are carried out to determine:
– the magnitude of a blow that will be required to produce and initial fracture
– the amount of energy necessary to produce complete failure
The impact test at the rim of hollow ware is similar to a chipping test, and the type of the tests at the centre of the of the specimen are carried out to determine:

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
• Rockwell 55 impact head, with both 4 oz and 6 oz supplied
• Able to test hollow ware (cups), and edge chipping tests at the rim of flatware (plates) up to 320mm diameter
• Dual Scale, for testing various types of ceramic wares (from Bone China to Hotelware)
• Maximum applied force of 0,50 ft/lb / 0,75 ft/lb, to determine: (a) initial fracture and (b) complete failure
• Engraved Scales at increments of 0,01 ft/lb up to a maximum of 0,50 ft/lb on the 4 oz scale, and 0.75 ft/lb on the 6 oz scale
• A clamping unit is provided to allow the testing of the strength of fired cup handles
• Suitable for either glazed or unglazed flatware and hollow ware
• A large model available on request for testing up to Ø 500 mm
